Colectivo C733 was constituted in 2019 for the development of public projects in Mexico. It brings together the studios of Gabriela Carrillo, Carlos Facio and Jose Amozurrutia (TO), Eric Valdez (labg), and Israel Espín. Throughout their trajectory as a collective, they have developed over 30 urban equipment projects in all regions of the country, with a focus on projects integrated into the Urban Improvement Plan of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development of Mexico. Their philosophy is based on seeking specific solutions that offer efficient responses. Among their works are the Matamoros Market, the Nacajuca Music House, the Tapachula Market, the San Blas Pier, and the Ecoparque Bacalar. Their works have been recognized in Mexican, Pan-American, and Ibero-American architecture biennials. In 2024 the Colectivo C733 got the Obel Award for their 36 works developed throughout 36 months.
Gabriela Carrillo
With over twenty years of experience, Gabriela Carrillo was a partner at the award-winning Rocha Carrillo Studio and has been recognized with various national and international awards. These include the Emerging Voices Award in 2014, the Federico Mariscal Chair, the highest honor for professional practice from the UNAM Faculty of Architecture, the Medaille d’Or from the French Academy of Architecture, and the title of “Architect of the Year” by the Architectural Review in London in 2017 and by Architectural Digest Mexico in 2020. In 2023, she received The Royal Academy Dorfman Award. Since 2019, she has been a Member of the National System of Art Creators, and since 2021, she has been a full member of the Academy of Architecture of Mexico, CDMX chapter. She is a co-founder of Reconstruir MX and Colectivo C733. Carrillo has been an academic at the UNAM Faculty of Architecture since 2003 and a Lead Instructor at the Research and Graduation Seminar Estudio RX with Loreta Castro since 2018. She has taught at Harvard GSD, the University of New Mexico, and the WAVE program in Venice, Italy. Her work has been exhibited in various international biennials and published in numerous national and international outlets such as Domus Italia, Casabella, Arquitectura Viva, Wallpaper, and Architectural Review, among others.
Carlos Facio
Carlos Facio graduated with honors from the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM, Max Cetto Studio (Mexico City). Between 2005 and 2013, he worked at the Mauricio Rocha + Gabriela Carrillo Studio as Chief of Workshop. Later, he lived in Brazil and worked with Carla Juçaba in Rio de Janeiro and UNA Arquitetos in São Paulo. Facio received the FONCA scholarship in the Young Creators program for the 2018-2019 period and the National System of Art Creators scholarship for the 2022 period. In 2015, he founded the architecture firm TO with his partner José Amozurrutia. He has been a guest professor at the WAVE program at IUAV in Venice. In 2019, he co-founded Colectivo C733.
José Amozurrutia
José Amozurrutia graduated with honors from the Faculty of Architecture at UNAM, receiving the Abraham Zabludovsky Award for Best Thesis in 2008. He also earned a Master’s in Contemporary Architecture Intervention in Historic Heritage from the same faculty, receiving the Francisco de la Maza INAH Honorable Mention in 2012. He has been a full-time professor of Projects and in the Graduation Seminar at Max Cetto Studio since 2010. Amozurrutia has collaborated with architects Mauricio Rocha, Gabriela Carrillo, and Tatiana Bilbao. In 2015, he founded the architecture firm TO with his partner Carlos Facio. In 2019, he co-founded Colectivo C733.
Israel Espín
Israel Espín is an architect who graduated from the Max Cetto Studio at the UNAM Faculty of Architecture. From 2011 to 2018, he worked at the Mauricio Rocha and Gabriela Carrillo Architecture Studio, where he participated in the development of around thirty architectural projects of varying scales and types. In 2018, Espín founded his own architecture studio, focusing on housing, public space, and cultural projects, among others. Since 2019, he has been a founding partner of the architectural design Colectivo C733, where he develops public architecture projects. His individual and collective work has been published in print and digital magazines in various countries and recognized at national, Pan-American, and Ibero-American architecture biennials. Additionally, he was a finalist for the MCHAP 2023 with Colectivo C733.
Eric Valdez
Eric Valdez is an architect who graduated from the UNAM Faculty of Architecture in 2006. He is a Master’s degree candidate in architectural design with a thesis on “Methodology in Design and the Generation of Resistant Forms.” Valdez has collaborated on research and technological innovation projects at the Structures Laboratory of the Faculty of Architecture and on research and dissemination projects related to the life and work of Félix Candela. Academically, he has taught construction and project studios at UNAM and Tecnológico de Monterrey. Professionally, he has specialized in the field of lightweight structures and is the founder of Labg, a company dedicated to the design and construction of lightweight structures. He is also a partner in Colectivo C733, a group focused on the design of public architectural projects across various typologies, including markets, sports complexes, public plazas, community centers, and schools.
